*今回のベアズビル・レーベル再発で最もその熊さんマークが似合うアルバムがこのアルバム。昭和のハモニカ大将ポール・バターフィールド氏の初ソロ作です。まずもって耳、より目を引くのがジャケット。
止めなさいって(^0^)。マンフレッド・マンズ・アース・バンドの光で目もくらみアルバムと同じ耳ネタ。あっちは口だけどこっちはさらにエグい指。にょきって耳かっぽじってよーく聴きやってことか。誰がこれにしようってアイデア出したかしらんが、引くぞー。負けてはいかん。中身は大傑作です。なんつたってアメリカ・ロック界で人望厚き大将の初ソロ作、みんなで盛り立てようと集まったメンツが凄し。その名前を見てるだけでどんな音楽だろうと胸がワクワクしてくるのだ。まず製作総指揮、アレンジ、指揮で参加は
ヘンリー・グローバー氏。
もう大人物。４０’ｓ後半に初の白人オーナーのＲ＆Ｂレーベル「キング」をシド・ネイサン氏とものした方。スカウトマンとしてもそして作曲家としてももちろんプロデューサーとしてもその世界で知らぬものはモグラのモグちゃんだ。ロジャー・ホーキンス親分のプロデュースもしており、その時出会ったのがホークス。ザ・バンドの前身バンドす。その縁もあってか丁度このアルバムを作ろうかって時、リヴォン・ヘルム氏がウッドストックにもう三顧の礼で招いて出来ました宝石が、この盤とＲＣＯオールスターズて訳です。

要するに、スティーリーダン、モータウン、スタッフ、ザ・バンドの音楽がここで合体つう次第で、これはもう。
親分の歌は、うーむ、例えればロビー・ロバートソン氏、ソロで歌うって感じにも似て。あまりに今まで周囲に素晴らしい歌歌いがいたから歌わなかっただけかと思う。試聴なさって貰って声質がＯＫだと思えればもうばっちり。
さて、問題です。どの曲でどのリズム隊が叩いているでしょう。クレジットには曲ごとに載って無いので耳勝負となる。
１．You Can Run But You Can't Hide
・・・いきなし意表を突くファンキー・ナンバー。このポンプはレイニー氏。ドラムはもうパーディ・シャッフルだからバーナードさんだな。サックスはサンボーン氏だ。間奏部でのリズム暴走凄し。風速４０ｍ。
２．(If I Never Sing) My Song
・・・ギターのカーター氏のバラード曲。ストリングスがもう美しくて、ヴァン・ダイクのパークスさんみたい。つうことはリヴォンさんが太鼓か。と思いきやこれもパーディ氏だと思う。スネア・リムショット。ベースは。これが難しいっす。わかりませぬ。
３．The Animal
・・・嬉しやハース・マルティネスさんの曲。もうまんま。ここで登場、逆手グルーヴ、リヴォンさん。オカズでわかるぞえ。ベースはこれまた高音オカズでレイニー氏かと。ダン＋バンド。鳥肌。
４．The Breadline
・・・グローバーさん作キャバレー・ブルース。ここでやっと登場、親分のブルース・ハープ。極太で流れ星流星群みたいな音の。たまりません。真摯な歌にうっとり。親父のカラオケとはえらい違いです。途中のオーケストラにアメリカ音楽の巨大さ感じ。えー、リズム隊は・・むむむ、パーカー氏かクルーン氏。ベースはわかりませぬ。
５．Ain't That a Lot of Love
・・・ニュー・オリンズ・ファンク。オカズからリヴォン氏ドラム、ベースはポンプでレイニー氏。

６．I Don't Wanna Go
・・・カーターさん作。このアルバムのハイライトだと思います。もうとろとろにとろける都会ブルース。パーディ氏ドラム、ベースはもしやジェマーソンさんか。重く、地を這う。アナザ・ディーコン・ブルースです。地下道を駆け巡る親分の電気ハープ。泣きながら鳴いている。
７．Day to Day
・・・グローバー氏作アッパーブルース。パーディ・シャッフル炸裂、付き合うはレイニー氏、んぺ。かっこええよー。立ち向かうハモニカだ。
８．Here I Go Again
・・・やれ嬉しや、みんなの友達ボビー・チャールズさん作。聴けば一発でわかる作風。ドラムは揺れてパーディ氏、ベースは難しいっす。ここでゴードンさんか。もう吹きたいよーと我慢出来なくなってどんどん吹きますハモニカ。
９．The Flame
・・・親分作のジャム・セッション・インスト。ドラムはパーディさん、ベースは・・・・？？？。ドラモンドさん？
１０．Watch 'Em Tell a Lie
・・・ラストはグローバー氏作スロウ４ビート・ナンバー。こうゆうのをほんとのムーディと言うんだな。抑えに抑えて歌を盛り立てる演奏陣。なのでバターフィールド親分の歌を。
なんか相当赤っ恥掻いたような気が。全然リズム隊判断違わいと申されるかも。まずは音楽、とろとろになるんだけど、なりながら想像するのも楽しいもんです。とことん調べりゃこれが正解だって出るかもしれんが、それじゃ面白くないもんな。
