誰もが待ちわびたソロ盤、ここまで遅くなったのには訳が有り過ぎてもう。実際５年前で１０年前でも１５年前でも全くおかしくなかったです。収録曲も全く同じで。そんな時間を超越したものがあると同時に８８年だ、凄く。その時の音でしか有り得ないと感じる、こうゆうのを本当のポップ・ミュージックの名盤かと思います。
で、わたしゃ、このアルバムが全てのミスター・ブライアンが関わったアルバムの中で一番好きだーー。
もちろん、ペット・サウンズも２１世紀スマイルも、あれも、それも、素晴らしいものばっか、好き。だけんど、聴いてて音楽心の底からもうじわじわじわーっと「ああ、いい。ああ、いい。あああ。」となーんも考えること出来ずに打ち震えるのはこれなんです。何でだって申されてもそうなんだからしょうがない。全ての事情も背景も本意も不本意もメルト・アウエイ。
あのミスター・ブライアンのソロ、しかも第一作。一声掛ければ、いや掛けなくても、世界中から銭金抜きで手伝いたいってミュージシャンがいっぱいだったろうかと。実際、旬です豪華ですのメンツ集合。８８年ですからあのジェフ・リン氏もおるで、「レット・イット・シャイン」。ビートルズでさえ己サウンドにしてしまった、さすがのリンさんもブライアン・マジックにはメルト・アウエイするっきゃありません。
全１１曲、真っ直ぐなメロディとアメリカ音楽の素晴らしさ、クリスマス・ツリーの赤や青のワクワク、憧れのでっかい冷蔵庫、ド派手な色のホームメイド・クッキー、パパは何でもしっている、チキチキマシーン猛レース、マンガの国、ぱぱらぱーな音が満載です。
