*「ヘヴィメタとは何だ」の第３回目、その一です。
どうしても音楽の神様はお金はくれない代わりに我が家にメタルを聴かせたいらしく先週もオムニバスＬＰゲットしてしもた。しかもこれはニュー・ウエイブ・オブ・ブリティッシュ・ヘヴィ・メタル略してＮＷＯＢＨＭのとんでもオムニ名盤らしい。タイトルは

邦題はその名も
ヘヴィ・メタルへの招待
招待されちゃいましょう。発売は１９８０年。レーベルはＥＭＩ。日本盤解説はメタルゴッド、マサ・イトーさんだ。
これがまたすんばらしい解説で、眼前３０ｃｍであのお顔がアップしてどんわどんわしゃべってくれるかのごとし。その時点で知るうる情報をあまつところなく網羅。ライナーってこうじゃなきゃ。それを全文スキャニングして見ていただければ私のクソ文なんか不要なんすが、何しろ長いーー。よっぽどでかくしないと細かくて見えんので、不肖僭越ながらやらせていただきます。
何とこのアルバム、メロディ・メイカー紙のチャートで初登場２２位とな。ＮＷＯＢＨＭの仕掛け的存在らしく、ＶＯＬ２も出てまとめてＣＤ化、見事されてます。仕掛け人はイギリスＥＭＩのＡ＆Ｒマン、アシュリー・グッダルさんとゆう方。そしてもう一人、監修の立場でニール・ケイさん。キングズバリーにあるヘビメタ・ディスコのＤＪで、その手のものの創始者、数多くバンドを応援プッシュして世に出した人とのことです。やっぱ、そうゆうことが出来る立場の人がガンガンやってくれなきゃあシーンは出来ないわな。バンドは音楽を作るもので自分達でプロモートするもんじゃ無し。うちも誰か応援してー。なんてね。
ＮＷＯＢＨＭ、政則さんも書いてらっしゃいますけど、何よりもパンクを通過してきたってことが、それまでのメタルとの差だと。パンク発祥がチャート的には１９７６年１２月のセックス・ピストルズの「アナーキー・イン・ザ・ＵＫ」から。それからたった３年あまりで第２世代となりパンク→メタルとなったのか。基本はスピード。パンクもどんどんスピードアップしていきました。バズコックスしかりスティッフ・リトル・フィンガーズしかり、中でもＵＫサブスの人気が当地でも凄まじく、ファンが被っておったそうな。そしてあれだ、やっぱモーターヘッドだな。野蛮を共通として己のスピード・ロックで大人気となってからに。火は付いた。パンクで始めたバンドも練習していきゃ当然テクも付いてくる。３年先輩達パンカーと同じ事してもしょうもない。てんでメタルに自然となっても何も不思議無しです。ＮＷへ暗中模索、ジャンル自体全く新しいものへの挑戦って道の他に、その快感極めてみせましょうのこの道があったってこと、今まで気付きませんでした。
って、自分で当時やってたバンドはメタルとパンク混ざったようなやつだったんだけど(^_^;)。それはメンバーがそうだったってことで。
とゆうことで１９７９年だ。チャートを見ると２月にいきなしジュダス・プリーストがランクイン、それからＵＦＯが来るは、スコーピオンズが来るは、何でだろうと思ってたけど、やっと謎が解けました。今度順番に組んで聴いてみようっと。
それでは件のアルバム、「メタル・フォー・ムーサス」の登場戦士達を。
ところで「Muthas」って何なんだろう。辞書に載ってませぬ。「武者す」かもな。
Ａ１．聖地へ/アイアン・メイデン
・・・出た。エディちゃん。ＮＷＯＢＨＭっていやーメイデンさんだわさ。全員愛知メイデン高出身。じゃなし。７７年６月に結成とのこと。本格稼動は７９年７月からで、デモテープ作って先のニール・ケイ氏のとこへ送ったらそれがサウンズ紙のベスト１０の全部３曲チャートインしちゃったんだって。夢のようです。んで、サクソンの前座でミュージック・マシーンとゆうライブハウスに出たら、そりゃもオオウケ。翌週からはメインになって、後はもうご存知の通り。キャラのエディちゃんも人形になっちゃうくらい。
１ｓｔは最高位４位、この曲は「ランニング・フリー」に続く第２弾シングルで８０年６月に最高位２９位だ。「さんくちゅあり〜」のキメも美しく、これぞのスピードメタル。確かにパンクだって言われても超１流です。おおお。

Ａ２．スレッジハンマー/スレッジハンマー
・・・スレッジハマーと言ってもピーガブちゃんチキン踊りの曲じゃねえっす。「バッキングハムシャーのアイヴァーで７８年に結成された。」との政則氏の弁。いつもそうだけどいきなし「バッキングハムシャーのアイヴァーで」とかさも当然のごとく書きますマサさん。こっちはさっぱしわからないけど、そうか「バッキングハムシャーのアイヴァー」かーと納得してしまい、かっこいいなあと思ってしまう。見事だ。バンドですが、これが謎。マイク・クックって方がヴォーカルの３人組。シングル２枚とアルバム１枚残してる模様。この曲のシングルは１ヶ月で完売だって。５００枚だったりして(^0^)。いやそれは冗談で、これまたスピードっ。そして三連シャッフル。ツボです。がんがん来るぜ。頭とんかちで。ギターさんがリッチー・ブラックモア氏みたく、最初トペポポと来てそしてズチャゴリコチポリポリと速弾き。やっぱ影響大だ。
Ａ３．ロックンロールの戦い/Ｅ．Ｆ．バンド
・・・「Ｅ．Ｆ．バンド」って、まあ、もう少し何かこうの名前無かったんですかいって感じですけんど、Ｅ．Ｆ．バンドだ。二人のスウェーデン人＋ブリテン人ドラマーのバンド。７８年結成。その年に５回もの英国ツアー敢行。８０年にシングル出してデビュー。８１年と８３年にアルバム２枚出してんですけど、全くＣＤ化されてなし模様。これまた速い。民謡調つうかポルカつうかいつも書いちゃうけど２ビートのカントリーにとてつもなく接近です。こうなるとギターの人がソロの時にスピードに翻弄されてオロオロしてる様が面白くてたまりません。そして最高に素敵なＡ級のＢ級味。美味いぜ。
Ａ４．ブルース・イン・Ａ/トード・ザ・ウエット・スポーケット
・・・このややこしいバンド名、世の中に一つだけだと思ったら、最近同名で違うバンドが存在してるみたい。ややこしいす。何でもモンティ・パイソンの有名なスカートの名前らしく。何だろう。知りたい。どれだろう。７５年に結成の三人組。この８０年当時２０歳そこそこだったそうで、とすると１５歳でバンド結成か。２枚のシングルを残してます。それだけ。題名通りブルースで、若いのにやたらオールドな味。声もわかーい。しかしこれではスピードの波の中ではすっころんじゃうだろなあ。しかし、この盤の中ではおかげで最高に目立ってます。おじさんロッカー殺しだぜ。
Ａ５．キャプヤード・シティ/プレイング・マンティス
・・・プレイング・マンティスってカマキリって意味だって。わたしゃ失礼ながら全く知らなかったんすが、今なお活動中、７枚かアルバム出して、ベストもあります、エース・バンドだ。７９年にシングル・デビュー。いきなしメタル・チャートで１位だって。アイアン・メイデンと同じプロダクション所属だったそうです。この曲がまた楽しく、スピードはミドル、特徴はコーラス。メタルでコーラスつうのも珍しー。青春歌謡メロディでやりますから、ジャニーズ所属メタル楽団みたいで。いずみたく作曲とか。楽しそうでしょ。それで最後まで通すかと思わば途中からやたら構成に懲りだす。そしてワクワクのリフが戻って、ワンダホなエンディングが貴方を待ってます。
