「ヘヴィメタとは何だ」の第３回目、その２です。
ＮＷＯＢＨＭの仕掛けアルバム
Metal for Muthas/ヘヴィ・メタルへの招待
を探検しております。
何だ何だそない盛り上がっておったのかーと手持ちのＵＫチャート曲を７９年から覗いて見ました。そしたらまー、確かに。パンク、メタルが合わせ技のように続々登場してました。そしてそのメタル曲の出現順番の含蓄のあることと言ったら。今度「何だパート？」で紹介させていただきますので、はい。
それにしても改めて思うは英国のバンドの多さ。やっぱ丸ごとロックの島かと思ってしまうだな。消えていったバンドもこの盤の中ではその時間の中で瞬間的に燃えた一条の業火。その曲だけならどんなほかのバンドにもけっして劣らぬ光を放っております。
それではＢ面の戦士の数々をば。
Ｂ１．ファイト・バック/エセル・ザ・フロッグ
・・・「カエルのエセル」ってまあなんちゅう名前でしょ。これまたモンティ・パイソン第２クール第１回に瞬間に出て来るＢＢＣの架空の番組の名前から取ったそう。恐るべきパイソンの威力。デビュー・シングルはビートルズのエリナ・リグビーだって。試聴せば、まんまやってまして。ははは。バックはもちメタル。その曲が１曲目のアルバム「エセル・ザ・フロッグ」を８０年に出してメタルの国に帰っちゃった。何とチェリー・レッドからＣＤから出てます。しかし悲しき廃盤状態。見張って中古出現するの待つか。町のレコ屋さんで５００円均一コーナーを目を皿の様にするか。７７年ハルにて結成。ギター、ヴォーカルのダグ・シェファード氏をはじめとする４人組です。
この曲はアルバム６曲目に入ってるもの。スピード１５０ｋｍ。前半はパンクと何ら変わり無し。途中でいきなしギター二人が変拍子のリフを連発し、おいおいとばかりにドラムが喰らい付くその瞬間が青春だ。曲メロも高校の階段の踊り場にある牛乳（三角テトラパック）の自動販売機のようだー。

２．バホメット/エンジェル・ウイッチ
・・・「天使魔女」ってこれまたどっちなんだの名前を持つこのバンドは７７年暮れにルシファーとゆうバンドから変身して出来たそう。ギター・歌のケヴィン・ヘイボーン氏を筆頭の３人組。
名前から予想されるようにブラック・サバスの子供だぜ。ほら～～。怖いぞーのリフ連発から三連リズム炸裂。ただし歌はお兄さん調。人が良さそうであまり怖くない。メタルのバンドの人っていい人が多いのね。昔よくライブでご一緒させて貰いましたけど、あんなカッコして「よろしくお願いしまーす」とかみんな礼儀正しくて。はい。このバンドの魅力もそうゆうとこだ。後半楽しそうなくんずほぐれつのギターソロ。ＮＷＯＢＨＭ（いつか綴りの順番間違えそう）らしくスピードのバックに乗って。幽霊屋敷の空気音入り。アマゾンで検索したら「ライブ」ってのが出て来たんですけど、こりゃこの人たちのかどうかはわたしゃ知らん。ブロンズ・レーベルから８０年にアルバム１枚出しております。
３．ラスチャイルド/アイアンメイデン
・・・４番でエースが２回目の打順です。同じく１ｓｔアルバムから。キラー曲だぜ。「復讐子供」つうタイトルもこわ。

迫力のライブ動画有り。聞き比べると相当声に迫力増し。この頃はまだお兄ちゃんで、かわゆいぞ。子供がかわいいのはあっとゆうまなんだよな。
Ｂ４．トゥモロウ・オア・イエスタデイ/サムソン
・・・サムソンつうたらサムソン・クツワダしか知らんぞ。って書き出し、前にもしたような。あ、「メタルとは何だ１回目」、「メタルお宝」に入ってたバンドだ。３番で１ｓｔだ。「それは明日か昨日か。ワシ朝飯喰ったっけな。いやだお爺さんさっき食べたばかりじゃないの」って内容ではけっして無い堂々たるバラード。それだけで終わるとヘッド罰金出来ずに復讐子供されてしまうので中盤鬼の展開有り。その後また元に戻る。その様が夕日の刑事ドラマ太陽にほえろしてまして。エロはしてないけど(^0^)。とても含蓄有ります。アンソロジー・アルバム「Riding With the Angels: The Anthology」に収録。
誓って言うがサムソンとサクソンはきっと犬猿の仲に違いなし。
Ｂ５．ブートリッガーズ/ナッズ
・・・あ、びっくりした。ナッズつうからトッドのラングレンさんのいたバンドかと思た。こちらはもちブリティッシュ。７３年暮にリバプールで結成されたバンドだそうです。４人組で７４年にＡ＆Ｍからアルバム「ナッズ」でデビュー。７７年の「ナッズ・ライブ・カッツ」まで４枚のアルバムあり。この８０年時点で折からのブームで再浮上したとのこと。しただけあって見事なるＮＷＯＢＨＭぶり。若々しいし。人生そこで吉が転がるかわからないな。頑張ろう。でも、アルバムは出せなかった模様でして。くー。
ちなみにバンド名はこの綴りだと「玉袋筋太郎」
になってしまう。マッドネスのターザン・ナッツのナッツだな。これでこのオムニは終了デス。そうかこれがＮＷＨＯＢＨＭかと納得させないような、黎明期のどかんＢＯＭＢメタルぶりこそが最大の魅力かと思う所存。なのでまだまだメタルとは何だの旅は続くよ、どこまでも。
いやーメタルってほんとにいいですね。
