「映画はフランスでロケされてますが、舞台はアメリカンなダイナー（ドライブイン）。そこで働くジョニー（ジェーン・バーキン）が客のゲイ２人、ポーランド人のクランスキー（ジョー・ダレッサンドロ）、イタリア人のタドバン（ユーグ・ケステル）とおこす３角関係をもとに物語は進行します。」（fromサエキけんぞう氏のライナーより）。
日本では８３年になって公開されたそう。私は見てません。８３年頃はおフランスの「お」の字もありゃあせんかった、おー。どっかでＣＳで放送してくれんだろか。この盤も先だって入手。「出たー」って感じで。
完全にサントラ盤の風情であります。完全インスト集で骨格は「ジョニー・ジェーンのバラード」と「ジュ・テーム」。形を変えて幻のようにたびたび浮き上がってくる。くどい、止めてくれーとなるやと思わば、これが来るごとにますます増す極楽感。アレンジはバンジョーなどを交えた妙なカントリー・ロック・スタイル。架空のアメリカが舞台ですから。それが思いっきりおフランスの親父さんのメロディと合体すると・・・。ニュー・オリンズの香りが。ラグタイムが。アメリカの根っこになってしまうのか。ライ・クーダー氏の「ジャズ」やザ・バンドの「南十字星」、ランディ・ニューマン氏の「セイル・アウエイ」の香りがする。途中、歪んだロックンロールやブギも登場、ここはどこ私は誰。
２曲のみの骨格でいささかも揺るがぬのは、そのメロディのとてつもなき魅力にあります。主題の「ジョニ・ジェーン」。たまりません。大切にしてあるおもちゃ箱の包装紙をふとした時に見つけたような。「ジュ・テーム」はあの「ジュ・テーム」です。あっはん、うっふん、ほたてー、の。あのあっはんが無くなるとこんな美しい曲だったのかーとわかってる上にさらにわかる美しさ。
怖いことにこりゃスーパー・マーケットのＢＧＭにも使用可能。気取り無く、しかも気品有り。これもしかからば飛び上がって思わずハウス・バーモント・カレーを買っちゃうよ。
運命のいたづらで、もしセルジュ親父のレコードの中で、これを最初に買わば・・・そのメロディをきっかけに大はまりすること必須。
そしてそれから仰天また仰天の始末に。
もし最後に買わば・・・トドメです。今まで夢中で聴いてきたことがけっして間違いで無かったと人生のその時その時に感謝すること必須。
どこからどこまでが最初か最後かわからなくなり、エンドレスで生活の音になってしまうかもしれませぬ。
特にスーパー・マーケット経営の方にはもちろん、喫茶店経営の方にも強力にお奨め。
