*我が音楽人生に節目アルバムつうのがあるとしたらこのジーザス・ジョーンズの２ｎｄもそうです。こりゃえらいもんが出てきちゃったなあとびっくり感激したと同時になんつうか失望も感じてしまった一枚。そりゃもう物凄いプロダクションです。ＰＯＰだしロックだし曲最高だし刺激もあるし音もいいし上手いし文句付けようも無し。シングル曲「インタナショナル・ブライト・ヤング・シング」「リアル・リアル・リアル」「ライト・ヒア・ライト・ナウ」の押し出しも相当なものでいや聴いた聴いた。話を聞きますと６４年生まれのマイク・エドワーズ君のほぼ一人引っ張りバンドだってことでついに年下のミュージシャンかよ。まいったなあ。それまでの音楽が為し得た成果が全て、６０’ｓも７０’ｓもパンクでさえ凝縮されて。完璧なプロダクションと言えば７０’ｓ後半のスティーリー・ダンとかフリートウッド・マックとかもそうであったけどあちらは長いことかけて少しづつたぐり寄せたその成果、聴いてるこちらも納得つうか理解の段階てなもんありました。ところがこちらは２ｎｄで早この音。既に出来上がっているものを吸収してちょっとさらに押し出せばいいとはいえまいったわ。パンクで引っくり返されてスタジオ機材がデジタル革命でガラっと変わった８０’ｓ初めにはおらおら状態、再び赤子みたいになったＰＯＰミュージックも１０年経てば使いこなす連中続々と出て来てしかも音楽才能溢れんばかりとなればこりゃもう無敵。そして別な言い方をすればあの時と同じ終着点、どん詰まり地点に来た思いもありまして。これは何もこのジーザス・ジョーンズだけで無くてこの時期これでもかの内容ぎしぎしの盤に何枚か遭遇してお口ぱっかり明けて呆然。また素人には手が出せないとこに音楽が来てしもうたか。駄目だとは思っていたけど(^0^)、俺が出来ることはもう何も無いのでは無いかと。そうゆう意味での失望でして。作る音楽から足を洗わされた罪なアルバムです。実際、ここから今に至るまで何か一歩でも前に何か起こったのでしょうか？逆に言えばもう前に行こうとか何か革新的なことやろうとか新しいものとか音楽で考えることが完全に無意味になってしまったのかも。まだそんなこと考えてる人間はどんどん過剰になって音楽インフレに突入、浮つきまくってもうこっちの心には何も届かず。７０’ｓ６０’ｓに回帰だって標榜する人間にはそれこそ今更何？同じことやって超えられるのか、それなら当時の音楽聴くわいとなり。残るはとてつもない個性裸の音楽待つのみ。それは実は昔から同じことかもしれませんが。改めて聴くと私が嫌いな思い入れたっぷりのため息交じりの男ヴォーカル、この人達もやり始めてたのか。ここでは気になりませんでした。これを引き受けて過剰になってヘキヘキしたってことか。今、女の方は声を限りに叫びわめき、男はため息混じりにカメラ目線。そんな印象持ってるんだけどどうかな。両者とも私にはやけに遠し。
