高校生になりましてちと小生意気になってきた頃、本屋である雑誌を発見。ニュー・ミュージック・マガジンでした。表紙はヴァン・モリソン親父。ちょうどピリオド・オブ・トランジション・アルバムに夢中だった時だったもので、何じゃこりゃと思わず手にとってしもうた。中を見ると字ばっか。して問題のヴァンさんの特集は、わわわ、湯川れい子氏が書いてるぞ。毎週聴いてる全米ＴＯＰ４０の人ですから。読みたい。買ってしまいましたわ。以来、安い、内容ぎっしりてんで根がケチな私はこの雑誌にいたしました。写真は・・・もういいかな。って。
小生意気な割に若いですから、簡単にモノを信じます。チャート・ヒット以外の音楽記事満載のこの本にずっぽり。参考にして仰山アルバム買いました。ザ・バンドとかはやっぱりここで読まなかったら買って夢中にならなかったかもしれません。
そして、来たれりパンクの時代。スティッフの記事を初めて読んだのもこれで、いや燃えた燃えた。読むとレコード欲しくてたまらなくなる。さらにムーンライダーズの鈴木慶一氏の記事の音楽を聴きながら想像が増していって他のレコードにつながっていくって感じ。これにも。レコード欲しくてたまらない。今でも感謝です。ジェントル・ジャイアントやカフェ・ジャックスを聴けたのはあなたのおかげです。
で、聴けたのはありがたいけど、パンクのおかげでマガジンへの疑問も出てきちゃった。レコード評などで「この曲は前のより落ちる。」とかの表現。または点数制評価で０点なんてのも。０点てのはまだ理解できるな。肌に合わないので聴きませんって意味で。しかしマジで０点の価値しか無いって書いたようで、とうようさん。反論記事を載せてたりした。反論記事載せればいいか。そうです。けっこう極端な断定評価が多く、聴く人間がそんなに相当な上から音楽を断していいものかって疑問がどーんと。音楽を創造した側、聴く側、どっちが上でどっちが下とゆう訳では無く対峙した段階では互角だと思う。しかし責めてきているのはあくまで創造した側、紙一重で立場上回ることがあっても下であって良い訳ないかと。だって無ければ聴くことも出来ないんだから。それをプロだからと言ってばっさばさってのはねえ。全く配慮とか優しさが無くて音楽と付き合っていいのかと。
さすがに一人の断定的レビューで全てを表すのはまずいと思ったか、誌名変更して「ミュージック・マガジン」となった時にはクロス・レビューって形で４人だったかな。各人が１０点満点でやるように。そしたら今度は欄が小さく短い文章なんでますます断定的に。しかもとうよう氏、ロックパイルのセカンド・オブ・プレジャーで０点付けちゃったよ。
これで日本中のパブ・ロック・ファンを敵に回したぞ。私も。
しかしその極端な頑固親父ぶりはブラボー。そうなりたいものです。私なんかにこう書かれたら激怒するだろなあ。
