「シビリアン」です。７０’ｓを通じて妥協無き塩辛音楽を続けて向かえた８０’ｓにトドメを刺したかのようなこの盤で見事に解散したとゆう。現在ＣＤでは７７年の化け物ライブ盤プレイング・フールとのカップリングで入手可。これぞ最強の２ｉｎ１だ。くんづほぐれつのけぞりの変拍子ファンク道を驀進して来た巨人軍はそのライブ・アルバムで頂点を為し、続くミッシング・ピース盤から一転真っ直ぐビートを見つめて来ました。あまりにもややこしい拍子でやり過ぎて今度は素直なビートがとてつも無く面白く変に見えたのかも。そりゃ売れようって気もあったとは思うけど。態度いささかも変わらずあまりにも真面目、熱血さんで。その果てがこのラスト。とんでも無いことになってる。真正面からＮＷな感覚と対峙、俺はこう見える。みたいな。これを称してＰＯＰになった、堕落だと切り捨てるはあまりにも絵面だけを撫で見た所業です。どうしてそうやったんですか？と問われて、わかってるだろ、それには触れないでくれと苦笑いするのとは訳が違う。やっぱり大辛の音楽だ。

３．シャドウズ・オン・ザ・ストリート歌詞カードには「シャドウズ・イン・ザ・ストリート」、タイトル表記は「シャドウズ・オン・ザ・ストリート」。思わぬ油断にこの人たちでもこうゆうことがあるのかとニンマリ。イントロがジェネシスだぞー。せっかくジェネなのに歌はピーガブのデレクさんじゃ無いような。あまりにまんまになっちゃうからかな。そのジェネシスのこうゆう曲の一番素敵だったとこだけを凝縮してあっけなく終わる。
４．ナンバー・ワンナンバーワンと言えば、うどん
。古より貧乏人の味方の激不味うどん。無論関係無し。ここではイエスに変身かＧＧ。違うか。このサビの感触、確かにどっかで聴いたような。気付いた方教えて〜。このアルバム、共に激走して来た朋友バンドの音楽がこんなに素晴らしかったのだぞのオマージュにもなってると思う。パクリにはあらず。目が真剣です。
５．アンダーグランドここからＬＰではＢ面。このアンダーグラウンドはゴーイング・アンダーグランドのアンダーグラウンド。わかりやすいように冒頭で地下鉄がやって来ます。次は大手町〜。ファンキー・ハイパー・ＮＷトラックだ。時速１５０ｋｍの疾走感で下手すりゃ脱線寸前。このスピード感はルパート・ハイン氏の音楽に通ず。ジャケットの顔無し人々が早回しで動いてるとこ想像してください。キメの♪アンダアグラウンド♪のあまりにも決まってることと言ったら。直後の雪崩落とし変拍子に男の子の意地を見たり。ついやっちゃった。

７．インサイド・アウト確かだっていやあ、この盤って確かに７０’ｓＧＧのインサイド・アウト盤。裏返しても向かうとこは同じ。ステディな８ビートのじっくりスロー。それでも食い掛かる素振りはいつも有り。その緊張感がたまりません。
８．イッツ・ナット・イマジネーション最終のラストは行くとこまで行ったハイパー・ドライブで。ミッキー・カーティス似の鬼ドラマー、ジョン・ウェザース氏が嬉しそうな顔でぶっ叩いてる様子。やっぱりジョンさんがおったからこの音楽出来たのかと実感。凄いドライブ感です。
ラストはアナログ盤ではおまけ有り。あまりにハードボイルドな。ＣＤではどうなっているのかな。
さてこれできっぱりさっぱり解散、ジェントル・ジャイアント。この先これ以上ハイパーしてたらどうなっていたか。そりゃもう聴きたかった。が、やっぱ最後の鬼の仕事って感じも。それだけの迫力。迫力有り過ぎるから売れないのは多分しゃあない。解散後の皆さんはそれぞれ音楽の道なり他の道なり、成功してる模様です。これだけのことを為した人たちですから。
