です。最強のバンド、通称ヘルシンキ・マザースの７４年の輝かしき成果をぱんぱんに詰め込んだアルバムだ。
とにかく御大元気、嬉しそう。どんなことでも答えてくれるメンツの中で暴れて、ややこしいことから粗野なことやらギャグやら思う存分やりつくしました。そしてこの盤のテーマは「ぼいーん」。ぼいーんぼいーんって、ボイーンな音楽だぞ。
それではそうの栄光のメンバーを僭越ながらご紹介。
まずはリズム・セクションから
ドラムスの
チェスター・トンプソン氏
・・・黒い弾丸。長ーい腕。４ｍ先のタムタムでも届きそう。ずらりと並べたそれを片っ端からぶっ叩き、手首はしなやか、バットがしなって球ははるか遠くタケナカ工務店の看板直撃です。人はそれをグルーヴィと呼ぶ。
ルース・アンダーウッド嬢
・・・各種パーカッション担当。夫君のイアン氏はザッパ氏との仕事に疲れ切って脱退。その後もバンドに残って八面六臂の大活躍。実はこのマザースのバンマスはこの時彼女であった模様です。
トム・ファウラー氏
・・・これがベースだの音を出すベーシスト。これがベースだのフレーズを弾く。この２つのことをほんとに出来る人は世界にそうはおりません。バンドのノリと空気の相当な割合を占めるパートですけん、いるいないでは大違いだ。
ジョージ・デューク氏
・・・デューク・エリントン伯爵のコンサートでピアノに開眼。ジャン・リュック・ポンティ氏と演奏したくて手紙をストーカーのように出し続けの。念願かなって、そのついでに会っちゃったのがプロデューサーだったザッパ氏。フロー＆エディ・マザースで加入。ジャズがやりたくて一旦脱退。入ったバンドがキャノンボール・アダレイ氏のバンド。アダレイ氏が天国にツアーに行ってしまい舞い戻って来ました。ニコニコしているザッパさん、「歌なんか歌ったらいいかもよー、いい声してるしー。それにこんなおもちゃ手に入れちゃった。」とシンセを見せびらかしたら、見事に術中にはまっちゃってもう夢中に。いつのまにか歌も歌うことになり、ハナの目玉曲１．「インカ・ローズ」で見事なる歌唱を。さすがザッパ師、才を見抜く。うまいぞーーー歌。この曲どっか、とんねるずな雰囲気あり。ぼいーん。中盤御大ギターソロから一転ライブ音源にフラッシュバック。その空気の入れ替わりで瞳孔が開く。
ナポレオン・マーフィ・ブロック氏
・・・メイン・ボーカルとサックス担当。黄金の声を持つ男。５．「フロータイン・ポーゲン」！とにかくヘルシンキ・マザースは音色が素晴らしく。たまらん。
ブラッドショット・ローリンレッド氏・・・
この名は世を欺く仮の名前で正体はキャプテン・ビーフハート氏。ザッパ師とはケンカしてもケンカしてもつるみあう永遠の悪友さん同士。７．サン・ヴァニーノでハモニカご披露。濃いー。
ジョニー・ギター・ワトソン氏・・・
己の道を突き進む伊達男ブルースマン。ちょーんちょーん空を飛ぶギターをヤニ声ヴォーカル。それどころか全ての楽器を弾きこなして手前の音楽をモノにします。たまたまこのアルバム録音時スタジオにおって、知り合いだったとゆうデューク氏の誘いで７．サンヴァディーノと８．アンディで参加。類は友を呼ぶ。ザッパ師三顧の礼で迎え、えらいこっちゃの存在感でそこだけまたまた空気が変わる。７．ではコーラスで。アンディの歌です。ラストの空一杯に花火クライマックスで一際大きな「たまやー」を。
ザッパ師のルーツ、Ｒ＆Ｂドゥーワップ、現代音楽、ゴジラが分離せず、渾然一体となる奇跡の瞬間がここに。キッスみたいなハードロックもあるよ。人がやる音楽てのはこうゆうものです。
こんな素晴らしいヘルシンキ・マザース。永遠なれと誰もが願うも、ルースさんの脱退でちりじりばらばらに。
短かっただけに強烈なインパクト（いつもだけど）、私も一番好き。
