*一生をビーチ・ボーイズに捧げた英国のミュージシャンの７６年のたった一枚のアルバムです。現在もファンジンの編集員をやってるつうからそれはもう筋金入り。わたしゃずっと失礼なことに元ゾンビーズの方だと勘違いしておりました。申し訳有りませぬ。全く別人２８号で、同じくＢＢフリークのクリス・レインボウさんとももちろんイエスのクリスさんとホワイトさんとも別人さんです。７６年の３月に唯一のシングルヒット、スパニッシュ・ワイン有り。まずそれを先行で聴いてぶっ飛びました。完全ＢＢコーラス。ゲストで全協力かー。そして曲。あまりの天国振りに。時が止まるかのよう。アルバム入手で真相が。全部一人でやってたのこのコーラスを。あがが。とめどなく続く極上メロディに演奏、歌。相当戸惑います。何故この方がこないマイナーなのか。有り余る才能と情熱ながら少しづつ重なった不運でシーンからはみ出たのかあまりにも本人が真面目過ぎるのか、とても控えめな方らしくこのアルバムのＣＤ化の為、日本のエル・レコードの方が交渉した際も「僕の盤なんかとてもとても・・・」とえらい難航したらしい。俺だったら二つ返事でお、お願いしますなんだけどなあ。彼の尊敬するブライアンさん同様、常に自分の音楽を必要としている人がいるのだろうかと自問されてる。ブライアン氏の苦悩も全てそこから始まっていると思われそこまで受け継いでしまっているとは。親父バンドでミック・ジャガーになりきってああ楽しいとの音楽とはえらい違い。比べるのも何だけど。そこが本当のプロ、人に音楽を伝えたいって楽しさと苦しみだと思います。しかも作った音楽が渾身の作。全身全霊で自身でもこれ以上のものは・・・ってのがまるで世の中に受け入れられなかった時には。それでもその音楽は残りとてつもなく素晴らしいものです。必ず支持する人がいる。銭金抜きで物凄い情熱で。何でスパニッシュ・ワインに続くシングルとこのアルバムがちっとも売れなかったのは全く不明。無名の人の盤を聴く時は大抵何かしら納得するもの有って、演奏は上手いけど曲がーとかまたその反対とか。でもこの方の場合は音楽でそのようなことは全くありません。花が無い。ってことか。性格が押しが無いってこと含めて。もしかすると一番の鍵かもしれんけど。なんつっても芸能界だから。音楽だけでは音楽の世界はいかんってどうしても納得出来ず。仕方ないよなって大人の割り切り出来ず。もし同じように納得できない方がおったらこのアルバムはとてつもない宝となると思います。３０年前なんて時間なんてまるで問題にはならず。でもあれだ。こんな凄い才能の人がこれの世の中なら才能とても及ばない俺なんかとてもとても駄目だったのはしゃあないなあとも思い。多分小ロット生産の為日本盤もけっこうなお値段。私は幸運にして中古を安く買えたのですけど、出すんならご本人も安く気軽に聴いて貰えればと思ってると思うのだけど。場所によっては全く無名なんで売れずバカ安い値段で、別なところではマニアの垂涎盤としてバカ高くなっちゃってたりして。ここでも悶えちゃう。何かそれでいいのかって。そんなこと全く無関係で流れる素晴らしきこの音楽を聴きながら。最後のこれが未発表なのかとひたすら驚愕するラプスカリオンに打ち震えてます今日も。とことん好きなミュージシャンに対して音楽で私はこう感動しましたって表現出来る才能が羨ましい。そう表現出来る貴方の音楽の素晴らしさは文章では私はとても表現できません。ただただ感謝するしか。人生賭けてこの音楽を残してくれて本当にありがとう。ずっと聴かせていただきます。
